Fairly sure - of all 10 batteries (the Royal Horse Artillery did not have battalions in that era)  certain that C, G and K Batteries, all show up in military newspapers in mid 1862 in Dublin and in Aldershot in mid 1863.

Worth coming at it from other angles if you can though to be sure.

Thanks for the quick reply MaxB

Have a Stephen Maple c April 1863 born Dublin.Found his baptism. in Dublin father Stephen Maple mother Sarah Kenna. When Stephen jnr married in 1885 it was stated that his father a soldier was deceased.Looking into this A Stephen Maple died in South Camp Aldershot in July 1863  and now just wondering if this Stephen could be  the father of Stephen jnr and could have been in Dublin in 1862
Do you know if the soldiers are listed anywhere to the batteries they were in? Many thanks

First quick reply.  No overall list, have to look for individuals hopug for records.  Bingo - The 1861 worldwide army index has what is probably the father listed 1783 Driver Stpn Maple in "Horse Brigade RA".  (The batteries were grouped in a varying number of brigades).

He was in the Crimea with A Troop RHA in 1854/55.  A Troop became A Battery in the 1st Royal Horse Brigade in 1862.
Task now is to look more closely at A Battery (which for the purists was awarded the Honour Title The Chestnut Troop in 1902).

More in a mo.

A Battery was in Aldershot in 1862, leaving for Dublin on 1 September.  Wrong way around. So perhaps he had transferred between batteries on return from the Crimea and was with one of the others that did move the other way?
(There are Muster Books and Pay lists at the National Archives.  They are undigitized and the titles can be misleading - there were other A Batteries in other brigades not RHA but it isn't clear - I mention this only for the purists who may read this!).

Unfortunately, without any more clues that's about all we have.  Do you have the detail of father's marriage to Sarah?

Thanks again for you help.We don't think there was any marriage.Sarah we think ended up getting in trouble with the law on a few occasions and Stephen [b1863] was living with his grandmother Eliza Kenna on the 1881 in Manchester.

Could  there  have been a possibility that he could have been in Dublin in 1854 - there is a Terence Maple/s born 1854 illegitimate son.Do any records show the soldiers religion please?

A Troop was in Canterbury in 1854, went to the Crimea in mid 1854.

Service records (and there are no originals for Maple on line) do not show religion.

Sorry to be negative.
