Thomas Cyril Alexander David
« on: Monday 21 May 18 22:28 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm seeking help in trying trace the family of my great great grandfather, Thomas Cyril Alexander David who was sentenced to 7 years transportation to West Australia 20 October 1850 at the Old Bailey. His convict record continues to use the name Thomas Cyril Alexander David.
Upon his granting of his ticket of leave, he travels to Melbourne during the Gold Rushes of 1850, marries Louise Elizabeth Walker in 1859. They then move to Sydney in 1860, during the process change his name to Cyril Alexander CECIL. (and start the legend he is related to THE Cecil family of Burghley House). The family have continued to use the surname Cecil ever since, with the Cecil legend remaining very strong.
I've tried looking for Thomas Cyril Alexander David's baptism, census records with no luck.

I've had myself and mother DNA tested and have been following up on any possible linkages, but there seems to be a very low response rate from people contacted.

I'm looking for any advice on any possible sources for Thomas Cyril Alexander David's baptism, 1841 census records or how to find his parents?

many thanks for any advice. ???

Hi

Do you know roughly when he was born?

Guessing his marriage doesn't give any family information?

He was a draper, and one of the charges to which he pleaded guilty was stealing fur accoutrements from his master Peter Poland & others (larceny by a servant).

He was convicted of further charges of significant thefts from his previous employer, Mr Charles Dennis Sisley ( an importer of French silks and shawls) - the value estimated at trial in the region of £300-£400.

thanks for the replies. we have serious doubts about the "information" on his marriage certificate, as we think he was trying to create a new persona. He lists himself as Cyril Alexander David and his parents as William Cecil David and his mother as Elizabeth Jones Cecil.
We've searched also for these parents names with no joy.

Hi avm 228,

that our Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  fantastic.

Cyril Alexander Cecil named his son (my great grandfather) Cyril Mansell Harry Talbot Cecil. I guess the Talbot refers to near where place of his birth. CAC named his eldest daughter Marion - that was also the convict transport he came to West Australia in.
