Computer help with keyboard symbols
« on: Tuesday 22 May 18 09:30 BST (UK) »
The weirdest thing has happened this a.m.  Went to do a task and the quote marks and pound sign have disappeared, to be replaced with @ and # (that's using the caps key on the 2 and the 3).  These symbols are also in their correct place on the keyboard; having pressed every symbols key I can, they are nowhere to be seen.  Nothing else has happened that is untoward.  Do I have gremlin?  Am I delusional?  Who am I?

Have you been eating biscuits over the keyboard and a crumb or two has got inside?

Tip the keyboard upside down and give it a little shake to get the gremlins out!

Now come on Millie, who is ever going to admit eating biscuits over the keyboard,or even eating biscuits full stop  ;D

But yeah I've had that problem and when you tip it upside down all sorts of rubbish falls out, including biscuit crumbs LOL

I think your keyboard has somehow reset itself to the US or Australian layout.  Sadly I can't tell you how to fix it, but someone here will know.

Hi lydiaann,

I had this problem not long after I got the laptop, I think I went through Control Panel, then Language, and something else, sorry not much help, but your laptop probably hiccupped somewhere.

Might be better to tell us what windows you are, makes it easier for whoever comes along to help you with the right settings.

Cheers
KHP

Just switching on and off might help.

Google "windows set keyboard layout"  and pick a reliable answer that matches what version of Windows you are using.
For Windows 10 this looks ok, I can't vouch for it as I don't use Windows at all.
