confusion reigns supreme!
« on: Tuesday 22 May 18 10:58 BST (UK) »
To say i am confused is an understatement.   :o ::)

My confusion arises from the following.

In the 1911 census Arthur Frederick DEW's location of birth was given as Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.  However he was baptised  at All Saints Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Is this correct?

I googled the location and those 2 places appear about 53.6 miles apart.

Attached is a clipping of the baptism and hoping for some clarity.  I cannot accurately interpret the road but it looks like Leverington Road.  It just seems such a long distance to travel unless Arthur's parents were returning to have him baptised in the same church as was his mother.

Perhaps they lived at that address but she went home to her Mum to have the baby, stayed a while and had the babe baptised?

I see the father was a railway clerk so travel may even have been free.

Perhaps?  I ......... ???

Westy

In the absence of any definite data, 'perhaps' is often the best available. Its not writ in stone but its offered as a possible scenario.
Sometimes all we can do is explore the possibles and then see what is, on balance, the most likely scenario.
Have you found any railway employment records that may show where the father was based around that time to see if they shed any light on their movements?

My Grandmother, went home to her mothers for the births of her first three children,it was quite some distance to travel for her,and all three of the children were baptised before they returned home a few weeks later, after this she had the rest at home

Were they Travellers?

Father was a railway clerk (see snip in original posting  ;) )

At the time of the 1891 census they were in Aston, Birmingham.

Ad Boo has said, there are all sorts of possibilities to explore, but it is quite clear from the record you've posted that the baptism was in Wellingborough and that their home was in Leverington Road Wisbech.

Shows how confused I was as I posted to the wrong board.  ;D ;D :D

It should have been Northamptonshire.
