Faloola,

They certainly got around a bit. Normally people moved for work reasons.

If you belong to a subscription site such as Ancestry or Find My Past -- you will find  that many Liverpool baptisms, marriages and burials parish registers are on Ancestry. There are some similar records for Staffordshire on Find My Past.

On Ancestry - simply go to the 'Card Catalogue' and type in a key word such as Liverpool -- a list of Liverpool datasets will pop up and you can select the one you want -- then complete the search box which appears.

On Find My Past use the A-Z of record sets - type in Staffordshire and a list of Staffordshire datasets will appear.

They won't be exhaustive, but may come in useful in the future.

A free website with some Liverpool records is Lancs On Line Parish Clerk site; www.lan-opc.org.uk

Please forgive me if you already know all this.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Who is it you believed died in Staffordshire?

Walter C. (Cameron) Firth and second wife Jessie both died in Rugby, Warwickshire - she in 1980 and he in 1978.

---- and there is a probate for Walter Cameron Firth at Nottingham in 1979.

You could order that if you wanted -- would cost £10.

I don’t know much about probate - what information would be available on that?

Re probate -- it could be an actual will, you don't know until you receive it.

Wills of course will tell you who money was left to etc and give you some idea of possessions etc.
The National Probate calendar of England and Wales started in 1858 - you will also find that on Ancestry -- go to card catalogue and type in 'Probate'.

Also you can search the free site Find a Will
 https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

However you need an actual year for this site - it's easier to find on Ancestry then you know the year to input on Find a Will. You can order the Will from that site if you want it.

Pre 1858 is more complex -- the country was split in various courts of jurisdiction. Without going into too much detail you can find many pre-1858 Wills on Find My Past under the relative county usually. However you haven't got that far back yet - so don't worry about that initially.

Card Catalogue on Ancestry

You can try this for anything just to see if any dataset of interest is there --- eg a county name, police, poor law, railway, non-conformist etc etc.

Hours of fun!!
