Hello clancam37,

Are you in Australia? Australian residents have access to many newspapers on-line through the National Library - access is free, but you need a library card
https://www.nla.gov.au/getalibrarycard/

There are a number of mentions of the Maharajah of Dhar in British newspapers. The library also has access to Gale News Vault which contains some Indian newspapers, though I think the latest only go to the end of 1900.

What is the employee's name? Happy to look him up to see if there are any hits in newspapers I have access to.

Hi Maddy,  I do live in Australia, not a major capital.
The employee I'm searching was employed as Stud Master to the Maharajah of Dhar from about late 1918/19 to 1929.  His name, George John CRISP born about 1875 Melbourne Victoria.  Can find no trace of his birth. In India he married March 1920 to Nocha Ofaman (Nellie) SIMON (Born Baghdad, Persia about 1895) and had 3 children in Bombay before moving to Melbourne in 1924.  George John CRISP was still working in India in 1929. The Melbourne Age Newspaper 1929  had a column of his visit to Melbourne to purchase livestock  As an important member of the Rajah's staff hopefully Bombay newspapers may have record of him or his marriage.  Trying to confirm where he was born and any clues to his Wife's origins.   Nocha's Father was HasmanSIMON.  Thanks very much for your assistance with this mystery.

I've had a look but can't find any mention of George CRISP in the newspapers I have access to.

Also had a look for his birth - tricky  ;). I'm assuming his father was Edward CRISP born 1846 in Tasmania and died 1896 in Melbourne?

Another site maybe worth looking at for India is FIBIS - https://www.fibis.org/

Good luck trying to find something on Nocha - my OH's family are from Baghdad, I've given up researching his line! (Btw, Baghdad is in Iraq, formerly Mesopotamia, not Persia  ;) )

Hi Maddys52,
Not sure if I thanked you for your efforts. Much appreciated.
Edward CRISP was his father born in 1846. Not the person who died in 1896.  Believe my Edward CRISP  died in 1919 in Melbourne,
Difficult, as you found yourself finding information for Baghdad and also in India.
Many thanks for your help.
