MS-Word macro location
« on: Thursday 24 May 18 13:14 BST (UK) »
On my old Win7 computer I had a handful of very useful MS-word macros which automated some otherwise very labour-intensive search and replace sequences.  I managed to transfer them onto my new Win10 machine by saving the contents as a text file then pasting those contents into a newly-created dummy macro on the new machine, and that worked fine till word started playing up and I had to reinstall.  I have the old HDD in caddy and I don't know where I need to be looking to find my old macros to repeat the process.  Previously I didn't need to know where they were, I just launched Word and they were magically there for me.  Help please!

What File extension were they saved as?

.dotm  ??

Just use Search   .dotm     or whatever file extension was used.

Found them.  At the back of my mind I had an idea they were something to do with templates, so searched for ".dot".  For future reference (because I'll forget) it's normal.dot and the location was G:\Users\.......\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

They wouldn't have been .doc anyway!

It might be worth opening a new folder in your personal directory, call it "WordMacros" or similar, then copy them to it.
