He also went to the French West Indies, in Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe).

The article says that he died in service during the cyclone of 1929. I know that there was a terrible cyclone in Guadeloupe in 1928 (my grandmother survived because she hid under a very heavy colonial bed). I don't know for 1929.

Alfred Eugène BREDEKA is mentioned here in 1870. He passed his exam as maître au cabotage (coasting trade)

I was right. It's in 1928. He is listed among the many victims of the cyclone.
