Re Mary Norcop;

At her marriage to Samuel Hatfield in 1826 she was simply shown as Mary Norcop.

There are 3 potential baptisms in Staffordshire - but whether ANY of them are your Mary I don't know. I haven't checked the census records for her age or birthplace;

1804 -- Mary ann Norcop born 31 Jan 1804 bapt 5 Feb 1804; Parents Josh and Elizabeth -- baptised at Keele. No clue as to abode or father's occupation.

1807 -- Mary Ann Norcop born 2 Jan 1807 baptised 23 Jan 1807 - parents Edward and Ann. Baptised at Stafford. Again no abode or occupation for father.

1808 -- Mary Norcop born 14 Nov 1808, baptised 4 Dec 1808 --- parents Joseph and Catherine. Baptised at Keele. No abode or occupation.

Often an eldest daughter was named after the mother's mother -- so if Samuel Hatfield/Hadfield had an eldest daughter named the same as any of the above mothers that may provide a clue.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

In 1851 Mary gives yob of 1805 born Cale, Staffs and in 1861 born 1802 Keele so that probably rules out the 1807 Stafford baptism. Also her name is given as Mary rather than Mary Ann.

I can't see his baptism either. Unfortunately this surname may be subject to various mistranscriptions!

If he married in 1801 you would expect him to be born in the 1770s or very early 1780s.

Joseph MAY have died in 1832 in Newcastle under Lyme aged 55 -- gives an approx birth year of 1777.

There are a couple of Norcrops baptised at Mucklestone, Staffs around this time (not Joseph though) -- I'm just wondering if they might be siblings;

Thomas in 1776 (this one MAY just have joined the Army) - parents William and Mary
James in 1785 -- father William

Bit of a gap though between them AND it is pure supposition. Just something to bear in mind.
Do you know the name of Joseph's eldest son for sure? That sometimes is a clue to a father's name.

I have had a quick look, but the couple don't appear to name a son William -- so maybe the potential parents William and Mary are NOT the correct ones. Needs a cleverer pair of eyes than mine!
