Hi Everyone

Could anyone hazard a guess at when this photo was taken? I assume it is a family occasion, perhaps a christening of the baby in the arms of the seated lady. I know the people in the photo were having children between about 1845 and 1870.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They look quite a well-heeled middle class family. Taken 1880's & probably somewhere between 1884-88.
An unusual shot taken at ground level with everybody looking down.
You can see that some hands are placed on shoulders indicating married couples & 3 daughters with hands on dad's chair.

Thanks for the reply Jim. I believed this to be a photo of some of my ancestors who were predominantly agricultural labourers. The number of people matches a particular family but the seated man died in 1863 so do you believe this photo couldn’t be any earlier?

Definitely 1880's I'm afraid.
You might want to consider that this may be an employers family.
Often servants were given family photos unless you can find a family that fits.
