Help with border crossing card terms/codes please
« on: Friday 25 May 18 01:13 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor, Bridget Hughes who eventually got into the US, but has a couple of Border Crossing Cards. I am curious about a couple of entries on those cards.

One gives the reason for rejection as 'No CIV' (or possibly 'No C1V'). What would that refer to?

The second entry is under 'Medical Certificates' on the rear of the card, where it says 'Afflicted with FDD'. Again, any suggestions as to what that was?

Much obliged for anyone's time and/or help.

FDD

A list of US Immigration abbreviations but no CIV listed - maybe some sort of visa or bond  ???

Crikey! Re FDD, she was only in her 30s. Perhaps they asked her about family history? That's an interesting one.

Thank you for your help Sandra.

FDD in that reference appears to be a more modern term to me, and I don't think the border crossing records were that technical in diagnosis.

There are some suggestions for terms used 1903-1924 here but neither of yours:

Have you got a link to the original cards so that other people can have a look? Or a clip of the image?
Is it possible "No CIV" = "No C/A"?

I know it's years on, but I just realised I did not thank the people who helped. I am much obliged.
Thank you.
