- you see, everyone's dashed off to their "Ancestry" / "Find my Past" / other sites, as well as free BMD, to get you off to a decent start.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Having had a hunt around, could he possibly have gone to another country than Great Britain? I seem to be having little success tracking him down for any certainty in Britain. ( never realised it was such a common combination of names!). Middlesborough is North Yorkshire, at that time, yes?

Middlesbrough was N  Riding Yorkshire in those days
Very little chance of another country being involved until his war days in the Coldstream Guards
Will the Army have records for him?

Hi all
You have been a tremendous help to me in my research and it has gone really well.
I wonder if I could ask another favour please?
This time it concerns my wife's side of the family.
Her father was Derek Friel sometimes called Eric he was born 18/02/1918 in Glasgow, 293 London Road and died in Middlesbrough 17/12/2011.
I need help with his father and with it being in Scotland am not sure how to go about this.
Derek's father may have been William John Friel and he married Margaret S Kane (? Maybe) 20/10/1913
Is there a specific site that deals with Scotland.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thank you

Hi Dave the only place for Scottish records is https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ all other sites only have transcriptions while the originals hold much more It is a pay to view site but very reasonable
