Is there a specific site that deals with Scotland.

https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

It looks as if there are 5 records for persons named
Derek Friel 4 births and 1 death, and 10 records for persons named
William John Friel 3 births, 2 deaths, 5 marriages

you need to register and pay for credits

EDIT

Similarly doing the free search shows 7 records for persons name Margaret S Kane there are
2 births, 1 death, 4 marriages

Derek's father may have been William John Friel and he married Margaret S Kane (? Maybe) 20/10/1913

Derek Friel sometimes called Eric born 18/02/1918 in Glasgow, 293 London Road and died in Middlesbrough 17/12/2011.

Did Derek marry in Middlesborough?

There's a Derek Friel on the UK, Electoral Registers, 2003-2010 living Middlesborough (details from Anc*y)

You could obtain his marriage certificate from the GRO www.gro.gov.uk to confirm his father's name

Sep 1945 Middlesbro'   9d   1622
Friel   Derek

Dave, the 1918 birth for Derek mentioned, you will not be able to view online (due to 100 yr privacy rule for births - current cut off for birth certs is 1917). You will therefore have to order it from Scotlands People.

If the marriage in 1913 is the correct one, there is a birth for a William John Friel in 1887 in Camlachie area of Glasgow. There is a Friel family in Camlachie for 1891 and 1901 that could be William's family.

As always though, you need to confirm details as you go. Have you got Derek's marriage that Ladyhawk has mentioned or do you need to order to check details?

Hi Ladyhawk
Thank you so much for your efforts
Yes there were siblings for Derek Friel but little is known about them and that area of Glasgow is right too.
I think Friel is actually an Irish name and so given it is quite a rare surname those siblings mentioned
James and Elizabeth are probably correct.
You all have given me much to sort through
wonderful
Dave
