Between 1911 and 1921 cencus
« on: Friday 25 May 18 15:10 BST (UK) »
Hi All, I am wondering how to find my ancestors between 1911 and 1921 census? My grandmother Florence Faithwaite (Dennis in 1911)  was in London in 1911 by 1918 she was in Portsmouth.
Also how do I find someone between 1960's and present day? The Ancestry site only goes to the 1960's then 2003 but nothing in between.

Thanks
Janet

Hello Janet

Have you tried looking for Florence in the 1939 Register which is now on Anc?

More information would help.  When/where was she born, her birth surname.  What record do you have of her in Portsmouth in 1918 and what surname was she then?

Is this her marriage to Lancelot D Faithwaite: Dec qrt 1943 Portsmouth, 2b 1105, if so it suggests she was also known by Florence L Brown at some point.

Might your grandfather have been in the Army/Navy - or were they not married then?

Maybe his papers survived (not all did) -- it would give his wife's name and his address at enlistment.

You may also be able to find street directories covering that period.
Find My Past has some electoral registers (particularly for London) -- also there are electoral registers on that site from 2002 --- although not long after that people could opt NOT to be included in the public register.

Maybe these particular ancestors had died by then though.
Births of children would provide a location --- a death would provide a location and any probate record if one exists.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

OK, I now see Florence has surname Dennis in 1939, living with Lancelot Faithwaite. There's a son Douglas Faithwaite born 1918.  So, presumably Florence was born Brown, married a Mr Dennis, divorced, then married Lancelot Faithwaite.

She divorced in 1920, unfortunately the divorce papers aren't digitised so not downloadable.  If you aren't able to visit Kew to see the redord it is possible to request a copy be sent to you, but at a price.  http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C8025420

Thanks, I was thinking about sending for Florence, my grandmothers, divorce papers. What would I achieve though? I am onto a mission now, I will contact my cousins and see what they know. I just feel so sad that one of my grandmothers daughters died not very far from where I live, this is before I was really into the family tree.
