Royal family ethnicity estimates
« on: Friday 25 May 18 17:57 BST (UK) »
The Royal Family comes in for a lot of inane criticism for having some German roots.  I wonder what the breakdown would be if The Queen was actually tested. And Prince Philip. Any serious suggestions?

That is an interesting question. I did see a reference some years ago that said Elizabeth II was our most "English" queen since Elizabeth I thanks to her mother's ancestry. The quote of the royal family being Germans, one that Diana Spencer used on several occasions is one that is said out of ignorance in my opinion as although there is a lot of marriage to German princes and princesses if you look further afield all the European royals are so inter married and come from all four corners of Europe I suspect the best you will see is x % Western and central Europe, x % Eastern Europe, x % Scandinavian etc.

Perhaps they should apply for a free Ancestry DNA test next time they are available (although of course some like Prince Philip have been tested and his haplogroups are publicly known, it is also said that William and Harry were DNA tested in case of kidnap although the results are not publicly available).
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

William and Henry have so many facial and hair similarities to either/or the immediate royals, and Spencers.  I must look at the 64 direct ancestors too.

I don't think you could really guess which of their ancestors' DNA has been inherited.

Privacy I guess. Why should they make their results public?

To stop the public speculating about Harry's father?  (Or confirm the rumours!)

There's that too & if the speculation is true, I personally would not be up/down given the obvious events within the marriage from DAY 1 & his mothers' own words, there were "three people" in her marriage & I wouldn't blame her, more congratulate her for retaliating having been used for an Heir & a "Spare"  ;D
