The 1861 census reveals that Elizabeth “A” Lawson, 6 and Jane Ann Lawson, 4, have become stepchildren of George Simmons, their mother Elizabeth having remarried.  Jane is still in the Simmons household in 1871, but Elizabeth jnr is not.

Father: Thomas Milford Lawson (1829 - 1859)
Siblings: Jane Ann (Jane G), Thomas Lawson

In all the family trees of Elizabeth Gray on ancestry, Elizabeth A has no sources.

I can't find an Elizabeth A Lawson mmn Gray on GRO for 1855 +/- 2. Seems like it's the same person, and that's her family.

I think her father is likely to have been Thomas Wilford (rather than Milford) Lawson.

He was baptised at Tynemouth 18 Mar 1829 - parents Christopher and Jane.

Marriage Dec qtr 1850 Sunderland - Elizabeth Gray on same page.

There’s a possibility for her in 1871 as servant Elizabeth Simmons, 16 b Sunderland.

It looks like the family we've been looking at is the correct one. Right birth year, father's name matches.
