On Frances marriage cert in 1837 it says Bride father surname   WALKER
Bride father occupation Soldier.

Spouse's Marital Status Widowed

In 1841 she is Eleanor, 1851 Ellen, 1861 Ellen and died in 1863 as Ellen

I know i maybe vague with the information but it's all I have to go on.

I feared it was too much to hope that the marriage certificate would name the father's regiment.  I'm disappointed but not surprised that he was not listed as deceased.  Still, the search is narrowing, so I am optimistic!

It could be worth posting on the Armed Forces board (cross-referencing to this thread) to see if we can find a regiment for Richard WALKER and track the regiment's movements prior to 1816 (although if Richard was in an East India Company regiment rather than the British Army, this may be impossible!)
