Craigindassie-milne
« on: Sunday 27 May 18 20:16 BST (UK) »
Whilst browsing some unchecked trees online which included a family member I came across the above place where they were supposedly married.  Can anyone confirm where this might be, it is supposedly in Perth or Perthshire.  The only mention of it when googling takes me back to the same source.

There is also this other reference to it here https://archive.org/stream/scottishrecordso08scotuoft/scottishrecordso08scotuoft_djvu.txt

„ William, in Craigindassie-milne. See Millar, Katherine.

From Family Search, is this the marriage?

William Millar and Kathrane Millar
Marriage date 27 Jun 1672 in Saint Madoes, Perth, Scotland

If this is the marriage, some background on Saint Madoes www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/16392

I am off on a tangent with that marriage and location in the post above, I think.

From https://archive.org/stream/scottishrecordso08scotuoft/scottishrecordso08scotuoft_djvu.txt that we had above, this is what shows for wife Katherine:

Katherine, sometime spouse to William Millar, in Craigindassie milne, par. of Seres 26 Apr. 1597

From there is a corresponding entry in the Wills & Testament section showing as:

Millar Katheren 26/4/1597 sometime spouse to William Millar, in Craigindassie milne, parish of Seres
Testament Dative and Inventory - St Andrews Commissary Court - CC20/4/3

Parish of Ceres, Fife rather than Perthshire - not sure on change of boundaries over the years.

Some place names in Fife with the letters 'Craig' but nothing obvious jumping out https://fife-placenames.glasgow.ac.uk/search/?word=craig&vol=all&parish=&cla=&gr=&certainty=&path=&altitude=&aspect=

Is this the other reference you saw?  familytree.huttonweb.co.uk/images/e/a/d9959b429fe3f686cae.pdf

Also showing a William Millar and Katherine (Shields). Dates don't match what we have on the posts above if the same couple  :-\

Thank you Monica.  That is helpful in a negative kind of way !

I was interested in William Millar (b 1774) and Katharine Shields (b1775) as on the huttonweb site. These two are definitely my ancestors and I have the correct records for them.  I suspect from what you have found that someone may have seen the earlier reference and mismatched it.

William was born in Falkland and was a tailor in Freuchie so a Fife marriage would probably make more sense.  I am unsure where Katharine is from which is why I wanted to check the Craigindassie reference but clearly don't have your search skills.  Many thanks again for replying so quickly.

Katherine Shields died in 1851? If so, guessing before the 1851 census  :-\ What did she show in 1841 (ie born in which county/Scotland)?

The information I have is that William MILLAR married Katherine Shields (b 1775 in Dysart).  He was a master tailor and after marriage they lived in Freuchie.  William died before the 1841 census, where Katherine is listed as age 65.  They had William (1802), David (1804) James (1806) Andrew (1808) and Thomas (1814).

I'm afraid I don't have the references for the above.  I have further info on Thomas (1814).

Pity that William died early too  :-\

Just a thought...

Could it be referring to Craigrothie Mill in Dairsie Parish?

Depending on accents & shortened versions of place names 'Craig' (Craigrothie) in 'Dassie (Dairsie) 'Milne' (Mill) :-\

I've seen reference to the word 'Milne' / 'Mill' being possibly the same?
