Same kit - ?different results
« on: Monday 28 May 18 10:43 BST (UK) »
I've got results of a match from two sites both using the same original Ancestry kits

Ancestry -
24.3 cMs shared across 3 segments
Predicted - 4th cousin  (Range - 4-6)

GedMatch -
 Largest segment = 37.3 cM
Total of segments > 7 cM = 53.1 cM
3 matching segments
Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 4.0

Can anyone explain why they seem different, please. I'm still a novice.

Interesting, I have never done that  - until now

With a distant match (and we cannot find the connection yet, it may be my great grandmother with the unknown father))
I share
28 cm on Ancestry over 2 segments
37 on My Heritage over I
32 on Gedmatch over 1 or more

It doesn't explain it this time, but don't forget different sites have different criteria for matches.

Ancestry go down to 6cM for a match, familytreeDNA include much smaller matches in the total, whilst most other sites have cut off points higher than that.

Thanks Margaret but that doesn't explain the really wide differences in the cMs  across the same number of segments  :-\

PS - Gedmatch got my eye colour too pale as well  ;D
