Charles Thorogood, injured 1918
« on: Monday 28 May 18 15:48 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I knew of two great-great-uncles - Frank and Arthur Thorogood - who served during WW1, but there's a chance of a third. I found a reference from the Weekly Casualty List for the 2nd of July 1918 that states 'Thorogood 17994 C. (Shalford); '. Charles was born in 1898 in Shalford. Can anyone find anything on him, regiment etc?

I'd appreciate any help!

There's another reference from the same paper for the 26th of November 1918, for 'Thorogood 17214 C. (Stratford, Nr. Braintree)'. I presume Stratford is Shalford as Stratford is nowhere near Braintree. This one looks to be prisoner of war lists. Either one could be Charles or neither of them him, it's just the initial C that is given for each.

Do you have a sub for Ancestry or Findmypast where, if there is anything , it will be found?

The medal rolls index cards are free on ancestry, you can get the regiment(s) from them (if they served abroad!)
Here is Charles Thorogood 17214

The 2nd July list is for Royal Sussex Regiment, missing, and actually says Thorogood 17224 C (Shalford), but presumably should be 17214

This looks like his PoW card

Thanks! Mrs. G. Thorogood would make sense as his father was George Thorogood.
