George Burn- birth never registered?
« on: Wednesday 30 May 18 16:24 BST (UK) »
I have been searching for the birth or baptism record of George BURN/S with no luck.
I have census re odds 1851,61,71,81,91,01 and 1911. All state he was born in 1848/9 in Hunslet/Holbeck Leeds. He died in 1913. His parents were Henry and Maria (occasionally Hannah nee Overend)
Any advice etc would be welcome

Before 1875, the onus was on the Registrar to register births.
Many people simply thought that a baptism/christening was the same thing, and simply didn't bother.

Have you looked for different spellings? Burns, Bern, Berns, etc? Even Hurn?!
Was he born before his parents married, and therefore registered under the mother's name?

To help in the search:
Marriage Sep qtr 1841 Leeds vol 23 p275: 9 names on page including Henry BURN and Maria OVEREND.

Did George have any siblings named on the censuses?  This could help establish when and where (or if!) they were registered.

No siblings on any of the census returns.

But if he's the son of a Henry & Hannah per 1851, then he isn't the son of Henry and Maria who appear separately with the Burn/Overend children whose births I listed earlier.

1851: HO107/2319/470/12 ("Burns")
1861: RG9/3373/64/19 ("Burns")
