« on: Wednesday 30 May 18 20:26 BST (UK) »
I am hoping that someone can help me to find a newspaper article from 1944.My cousin has been told of a newspaper article and photo of her grandfather,Horace Taylor who died during ww2 while serving in the army.He died on 18 August 1944 aged 33 in Burma but lived in York.I have searched newspapers at Findmypast but found nothing. My cousin never knew her grandfather and has never seen a picture of him and I would be so grateful for any help
Thanks

I do feel some sympathy for your cousin, my Dad was in Burma.

Have you tried the British Newspaper Archives?  There is free access in some local libraries.  I was recently researching there and found a Newspaper report about a relative in a Dundee Newspaper - many miles from his home in England.   Not sure why but it may be worth casting your nets a bit further.

Good luck

Thanks, I have looked at the library archives but like you say the article may be in a newspaper that I haven't thought of looking in so I may have another attempt!

Good luck with your search.
I think the British newspapers archive is constantly adding new resources, increasing years of coverage for some publications and adding new titles too.
However I think there is very little from 1950 onwards and coverage 1920 - 1950 varies greatly from county to county.
Newspapers is a research area you have to keep going back to because of the continuous (but often very small) monthly updates.
