London Baptism 1829
« on: Thursday 31 May 18 08:38 BST (UK) »
James Gilligan was born 29th April 1829. From his school enrolment he was baptised  at " a London Church". His sister was baptised within a week of birth so possibly he would have got wet not long after birth as well. Parents James and Mary nee Conor. Sister was at a Methodist Church but James Snr was most likely Catholic. If he can be found any snippets of further info most appreciated.

James shows up in 1841 in Chatham working as a grocers boy. 1851 alone in London from memory. Married a German with 4 first names and maiden name Reinkin in 1859. Seems to vary as to which one was used. Says he was born Brompton. Then in later census with his own family in London.. Mum- Mary Ann (also used both names) nee Conor -is in Chatham in 1841 with what appears to be three unrelated teenagers, Rochester in 1851 as a servant for Captain George Belson  saying she was born Middlesex and buried in Chatham 1857. Have yet to go looking for Ann. Been focusing on James Snr 1777-1832 buried Chatham and brother John (James) born at sea 1820 and last seen leaving a seaman's hospital in 1859.Have posts at the General English board and the Military board and a non responsive one on the Canada board. I misread Anns bapt dates, it was closer to a month to baptise her. James and Mary Ann married in 1814 on a Kent Isle  ?Sheppey? where they did the bulk baptising as well. Seem to have bulk baptised 3 children in 1818. John in Halifax Nth America. John (James) was Navy  from 1834 to 1846 then Merchant navy and seems to have been census shy or at sea
