Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help - I'm trying to piece together the life of my 4th great grandmother Sarah Challis/Challice before she emigrated to Australia on the 'Black Eagle' in 1857 with her husband John Casbolt and children William Casbolt and Sarah Ann Casbolt.
She seems to use several different names throughout her life:
Casbolt-Challes Marriage Certificate 1852 - minor, daughter of James Challes (brickmaker)
William Casbolt Birth Certificate 1853 - still to find possibly born in Westminster?
Sarah Casbolt Birth Certificate 1855 - Sarah Casbolt (formerly Taylor)
James Casbolt Birth Certificate 1857 - Sarah Taylor born abt. 1834 (23yo) Wimbish, Essex
John Casbolt Birth Certificate 1859 – Sarah Cashales born abt. 1835 (24yo) Wimbish, Essex
Thomas Casbolt Birth Certificate 1861 - Sarah Taylor born abt. 1834 (27yo) Wimbish, Essex
Mary Eliza Casbolt Birth Certificate 1864 - Sarah Chaliss born abt. 1836 (28yo) Essex
Alfred Casbolt Birth Certificate 1868 - Sarah Challas born abt. 1835 (33yo) Wimbish, Essex
Walter Casbolt Birth Certificate 1875 - Sarah Challice born abt. 1834 (41yo) Essex
Frederick Casbolt Birth Certificate 1877 - Sarah Challice born abt. 1834 (43yo) Essex
Sarah Casbolt Death Certificate 1905 – born abt. 1834 (71yo) Essex, England to ? Taylor (bricklayer) and Mrs Taylor (mn. Challis)
From what I've been able to find so far, there was an Ann Challice (pauper) that baptised her 'base born' daughter Sarah in 1836 at Helions Bumpstead, Essex. And there is an Ann Challis (daughter of John Challis) that marries a James Taylor (son of Allen Taylor) in 1838 at Wimbish. This may explain the naming confusion? Is anyone researching this family that could shed some more light for me?
I have found a Sarah Challis in the 1851 Census working as a house servant for Joseph Chaplin's family at 'Moat House' in Ridgewell that I think could be her but can't seem to find the family in the 1841 Census. If anyone could help me track them down, that would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Lee
