Advice/help Markey-Dublin
« on: Friday 01 June 18 08:31 BST (UK) »
Hello
I am trying to trace my grandmothers ancestors however am really struggling finding any records which could trace her family.
I think I am struggling as I know little about her and have no living relatives to help as well as finding Irish records a little more difficult to find.

She was born Mary Margaret Markey 1895 Dublin Ireland.

She married Thomas Nicholson in 1920 Dublin however i I Niall this couldn’t find a marriage record but recently found One where she may be recorded as “Maud” on the record.

She came to England in either the 1940/1950 and died in Chester in 1966.

She was known as Margaret and some of her family emigrated to South Africa.

When researching I have looked for census records however there are some very similar names and dates and I am unsure if it is her. (Mary Margaret and margaret Mary).

I do have a marriage index entry And a possible birth index entry but I  unsure of how I could trace her mother of father? I cannot find any parish records- she was catholic.

Any advice would be 👍 thanks Kate

Hello and welcome to Rootschat  :)

This is a good site if you have not already found it https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

This looks like your grandmother’s birth registration

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1895/02217/1836824.pdf

You will have to probably go through a couple of procedures to see it but it is free.

Regards
Heywood

Is this the marriage you found?
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1920/09270/5356094.pdf

The father is Thomas which would fit with the birth.

I have only ever found index entry which does not give much information so the ones you have sent links for look like they hold much more information......I didn’t know where to find them so that’s great I’m vrry excited to have a good peek and see if I can start piecing it together......

They are both in Summerhill at time of marriage but is she there on 1911 Census?

Her Father was an Engine Driver so moved around a lot!!!   ;D ;D  but maybe you can find his as an Engine Driver on Census?

I can’t find them in censuses yet  :-\

Thomas Markey married Mary Ennis in 1894 - you can find his marriage. There is something written under his father’s name which I can’t quite make out.
