A marriage mystery, help please
« on: Saturday 02 June 18 05:53 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

For sometime now I've been looking for the marriage of my Granparents Isaac Samuel/s b. 1850 in Whitechapel area and  Mary Warn(various spellings) b. 1853 Northfleet, Kent.

Issac was Jewish and Mary was not.  I can find no record of their marriage tho' I'm sure they would have been.  The marriage was supposed to be in 1872.

Certainly they are on all the census from 1881on.

Can anyone solve this mystery please, because I'm stumped.  ???

Thanks for your interest

Freebmd

North Aylesford Kent June Quarter 1872 volume 2a page 632
Mary Warn.

I cannot see Isaac Samuels listed on the same page, you just may have to buy the certificate.

Their daughter Amelia was born 1873 and registered in N Aylesford Kent.

Hi Amondg,
Thanks for your lookup, unfortunatly that Mary married a Wickenden.  I have checked the census and he was indeed married to a Mary, but it can't have been mine.

Soooo the mystery still remains  ???

Thanks again for your time,

Regards

If they married in  a Synagogue maybe it wasn't recorded at the registrar's office.

Would Mary have to convert to the same faith to be married?

I seem to recall an episode of WDYTYA where the lady had to covert to be married.  Larry Lamb episode I think.

Thanks Millipede, for your suggestion.  I don't think she converted, I never heard it mentiond and the children were'nt brought up in the Jewish faith.

Thanks again for your time,
