Albert William Ilbery - Trying to locate a Death certificate
« on: Saturday 02 June 18 05:57 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a death certificate or any record related to:

Albert William Ilbery
DOB: ABT 1846 +/- 1 year
DOD: 1890's Maybe between 1890-1896
Location of Death: I think its either Missouri or Illinois based on the records I have.

- He claimed in 1880 US Census records that he was of Swiss origin and came to the USA with his parents in 1866 and settled in the St. Louis area until is death. He was a photographer as a trade and had his own Shop in St. Louis and also Breese Illinois during his life.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Added an undated picture of him we had in our family if you were curious on what he may have looked like.

Was he a single man?  If not his wifes death may provide further clues.

He got married to Emma Ilbery in 1876 in St. Louis, MO. So far no information I have with Emma has led me to any additional information on Albert.

The only lead I have is that he had a son that was born in 1887 in Breese, Illinois which leads me to believe he was probably living there at the time of his death.

Do you have a place of burial for Emma?  It could be worth seeing if he's buried with her.

Unfortunately, Illinois and Missouri didn't require statewide death registration until the early 1900's, so it can be a bit hit or miss before then.

Yes, Emma is buried here in Houston: https://old.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Ilbery&GSfn=Emma&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=35635894&df=all&

Emma died 30 years or so after Albert died and he is not buried next to her. Its too bad about the death registration. I think my only hope right now is to research local news papers for obits...

I've checked out the St. Louis City directories:
1891 (year ending 1 Apr 1892):

Albert Ilbry, photographer, 1426 Franklin av.

he doesn't appear in the 1892-1897 directories when Emma reappears:

1897 (year ending 1 Apr 1898)
Emma Ilbery, wid Albert, r 1623 S 9th

She is not in the 1898 directory

She shows up again in the 1901 (ending 1 Apr 1902) directory:
Emma Ilbery, wid Albert, r 1426 Dolman

1902 directory:
Alfred and Emma, 1623 S 9th

This sort of leads to your assumtion he may have died in Illinois, since Emma doesn't reappear in Missouri until the 1897 directory.  Either that, or he died prior to 2 Apr 1892 and Emma moved to Illinois.

His father and mother were still in Missouri, and by this time, William was residing in Memorial Home.  In the 1899 directory, both Susan and William are residing in Memorial Home.

I agree,  This had led me to the same conclusion. Albert possibly dying in the early 1890's (Maybe 91-93) and that he may have passed away in Illinois makes me think he may have a head a death notice issued in a local paper in Southern Illinois.
