Good morning and thank you in advance for any help that can be given.

I have found the brothers of my wife's GG-Grandfather in the 1861 census and would be grateful for any help in transcribing their occupations.  I think that James is a "Japanner and Tin Plate Worker employing eighty ??? of hands" (whatever that means?).

As for George should I assume that he is unemployed or a partner in the business with his brother?

Thank you.

Nic

George’s occupation is a ditto of James’, suggesting he’s in the business too.  I’m not sure a ditto is specific/reliable enough to tell you with any confidence what his exact role was, though.

There's a notice in the newspapers Feb 1865 that the partnership between James H Dean and George J Dean was dissolved....business to be carried on by James H Dean.
