Just to be clear, is the immigration record solely for Simon or for his whole family? The 1916 census says they all arrived in Canada in 1910.

Looks like he was travelling alone. It appears he was going to his son, a blacksmith, in Alberta.

Men often went ahead to set up a home before families joined them. Arrival dates can be a bit fluid in the census records. I have had a look for Margaret and the children arriving but haven't been able to spot them at the moment. Not all records are on line...depends on port of arrival and date. Also, probably not all records survive, either.

That answers my questions, thanks. Do you know the name of his son already in Canada?

I'm afraid not and it doesn't say on the manifest. One would think it would have been the eldest but not necessarily. Were the sons all blacksmiths? If not would help to narrow the son down.

Well they all became farmers by 1916, so I don't know what they were before they started farming sadly. Thanks for the help! That's cleared up a few minor details anyway.
