Armagh Cathedral (CoI) memorial look-up
« on: Sunday 03 June 18 06:22 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the memorial of Richard Chappell of Armagh (1633-1706), commemorated on a marble flag in the Bishop's Court in Armagh Cathedral (the Bishop's Court is the area formerly the south transept, formed by blocking up the arches between the nave and the aisle).

There is a reference to this memorial in James Stuart's 1819 work 'Historical Memoirs of the City of Armagh, for a Period of 1373 Years, Comprising a Considerable Portion of the General History of Ireland' (https://books.google.co.nz/books?id=EQtVAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA522&lpg=PA522&dq="richard+chappell") but Stuart doesn't give the details of Richard's mother and daughter, who are apparently also commemorated. His mother's name is the key to linking this family back to England.

I've looked in the Journals of the Association for the Preservation of the Memorials of the Dead in Ireland, but with no joy.

Many thanks,

Suzanne
