bastardy records
« on: Sunday 03 June 18 07:02 BST (UK) »
I had NRO search records for my ancestors.  It appears that they were (base) which I think means illegitimate. These records came from Gorleston Parish Suffolk.
Ann Bullard, mother died 1739
Lemuell, baseborn son of Anne Bullard b. 25 November 1705
Robert, son of Anne Bullard b 23 December 1690
Catherine, daughter of Anne Bullard 30 December 1697.  I have tried to find bastardy records or records of the father.  Havent been successful as yet.  Cannot seem to find a list of people in the workhouse either.  Can you please give me some guidance

Any Bastardy records that are still in existence will be with the relevant County Record Office.
That could mean Suffolk RO?

www.workhouses.org.uk says (of Yarmouth Poor Law Union):
Few records survive — holdings include: Guardians' minute books (1837-1930, with large gaps); Cottage Homes admissions and discharges (1914-33); etc.

Yarmouth included Gorleston in it's area.

If the relevant records office has a database it might be worth putting their names in the search box. You might find a bastardy bond. Alternatively the parish may have insisted the father make provision for them in his Will. Long shot but worth a try.
