On the Qld State Electoral Roll (not the Commonwealth Roll) for 1903 When he qualified by residence in April he stated that his age was 54.

Thanks, Gerry.. I don't understand what that means, could you explain it, please?

Geoff,

George Thomas GOODWIN qualified to be on the Electoral Roll in the ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF ALBERT, Southport Division on 21st April 1903, part of the qualifying process was to give your age and in George Thomas GOODWIN 's case his age was registered on the Roll as 54.  He had qualified by residence at Portion 40 in the Parish of Mudgeeaba, his occupation was a labourer.

Age 54 in 1903 relates to a birth around 1849.

Given what we know, this looks good.

George Thomas Goodwin, Gilston, Southport. Electoral Dist' of Albert. Unfortunately no age or occ. given.

Hi Geoff,
A couple of months ago you posted your inquiry on another forum (Family History UK ) and the helpers, over many pages, there came up with the same lines of response a those given here.

Perhaps the public record holds nothing more to be found (at this stage, at least) and, like many questions in family research, it may remain an uncertainty for now. ;D

Thanks, Sue..

I did declare it was on other forums in post #1.

I would agree it has become stagnant.. I tend to try every so often [new material is being added all the time] being on a main line. That said, this time around I have found a bit more. Now I have found out he is not married I probably wont be posting again. I don't have his arrival, given his death cert. says c1867, I am happy with that.

Thanks again

What a list, thank you so much, Gerry. These are the bits that make it all worthwhile, especially when you think there will be nothing else...

It's good to see the occasional Thomas mentioned in his name, there doesn't appear to be another in the area, so fits well

I have seen the arrival before, even though a couple of years out from the DC, it looks good, age is right, his father and a brother were both drapers.

Thanks again
Geoff

EDIT: Just to clarify, I haven't seen an arrival for 1867 as suggested date by death cert., but I have seen a 1869 version.
