Queensland Government Gazette
Volume XXI, Saturday, 8th September 1877, page 534.

Department of Public Instruction, Brisbane 6th September 1877.

George Thomas GOODWIN, appointed to be a member of the School Committee for the State School of Tallebudgera.

(my shortened version)

A death certificate for the 1915 death would help.

Gerry

Had chance to look through the info now.

Tantalising, though apart from the death difficult to prove anything.

I'll get the death cert as suggested.

Thanks again

Geoff, you may be aware that Australian death certificates give much more information than many UK death records.

Currently you can download a Queensland historical image of the original death registration for AU$21.40.
https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/queryEntry.m?type=deaths

The information asked for on registration includes:
Name, Date, Death place,   Age,   Occupation, Cause of death,   Parents' names,   Spouse names,   Marriage details, Chns names,    No of chn,   Birthplace, Residency,  Burial place

Obviously the information depends on the knowledge/truth/accuracy of the informant.  In this case the informant knew enough about him to know his parents' names and even the maiden name of his mother so it would seem likely that the other information would be given and correct.

Hi Judith

Many thanks for the advice..

Was just looking at the possibilities, that does appear the best option.

Because the informant appeared knowledgeable, I am hopeful of some useful info. In any event I will post the outcome here.

Death cert:

Died at Brisbane Hospital. Age = 66y. Occ = Labourer. Not married. 48y in Qld [1867].

Buried at Toowong as Wivenhoe said.

Not being familiar with burial procedures I wonder if those other 2 in the same plot would have anything to do with him, or would it be a space issue?

Hi Geoff

Could you transcribe the whole certificate, please?  Sometimes there's an extra clue.

Who was the informant?

Unfortunately the other two may, or may not be connected to George.  Not much help there then! I'm not sure if the cemetery itself might be able to tell you.

Hi Judith

You're right, not a lot there, I guess not being married hasn't helped.

The informant was the medical superintendent at Brisbane Hospital, C M Lilley, so possibly got the details from his admission assessment. Nothing much else really, died from mainly heart problems and senility. Names his parents and PoB, nothing new. Minister at burial = J L Melville, witness = R Taylor. Undertaker = W Robinson. That's about it..
