illegitimate birth 1909
« on: Sunday 03 June 18 11:10 BST (UK) »
An ancestor born in Glasgow June 1909 with no father named on birth certificate. Father not named on subsequent marriage or death certs.

It occurred to me what about church baptism records? I think it would be Church of Scotland. However, the family lived in St Rollox district but not sure which church. Anyone help with any suggestions? This might help track down any baptismal register?

James

Have you tried searching Scotland's People or Family Search? Using wider search parameters , you can then narrow it down to the more likely results. May not have been baptised of course.

Thanks for reply. I have searched SP and found BMD certificates. Did you mean something else?

Does the Birth Certificate have any marginal notes referring to the RCE (Register of Corrected Entries).  If so this may help resolve matters.

You can search the church records as well. Choose parish records to search instead of statutory records.

It may be worth a look here to see if the childs name is indexed?

Listed under "Sheriff Court Paternity Case Search"
