Thomas John Lewis
« on: Sunday 03 June 18 12:41 BST (UK) »
In 1908, Thomas John Lewis, born Pontlottyn, residing at 168 Anabella Street, Cardiff attested to join the TA, Glamorgan and Pembroke RGA at age 22 years.  When asked if he had served previously he stated Yes, Canadian Rifles.  In June 1909, he applied for discharge because he was returning to Canada in July 1909.  In 1912 he returns to Wales, a year later he marries Margaret Louise Parry, a daughter Margaret Nesta was born 1914.  Thomas enlisted on 23 Aug 1918, was sadly killed in action May 1918.

I would appreciate help to locate the ship he travelled to Canada in July 1909 and any details of his time there and if possible the name of ship on which he return to UK in 1912.

Kind Regards, Roy

Hi Christine
Many thanks for your time and I am grateful for the information.

His occupation in Wales was that of vulcanizer, a trade that saw him appointed to the Army Service Corps when he enlisted in 1915.  Machinist and rubber manufacturer would fit; not heard of him being a carpenter before but at least he worked in a rubber factory.  I think you have the right man, age fit, dates fit and his trade.  I am truly grateful for your help.
Regards, Roy
