Hendrik Nicholaas Smidt

Hi not sure if anyone can help with this one. I'm searching for info on Hendrik Nicholaas Smidt, I Know he was a farmer born around 1873. I don't have any parents names. It seems he died in The Second Boer War. He married Anna Catharina Raath in February 1895, Harrismith, they had a son, Johannes. Nothing much else to go on, Anna remarried in 1902 to William Hardy. Hoping  someone can help with a direction to look

What are the  witness signatures on the marriage document? does that give a clue to his birth family?
