Bartholomew Wyndover Marriage Banns Ottery St Mary, 1657.
« on: Tuesday 05 June 18 20:58 BST (UK) »
Hello There,

The above person was one of my 10x great granddad's. He was baptised on the 24th of August 1633 in Sidbury. His father was Henry and (apparently according to one family tree), his mother was a Margaret.

Anyway, he married Dorothy Bonner in Ottery St. Mary in 1657.
I am trying to decipher what the marriage banns says in the original image please.
I would be very grateful if someone else who has access to Find My Past would be able to help me decipher what it says please.

I will post a link to the image on here. I will start of by typing what I can read of it:

"Bartholomew Wyndover , of this parish(?) sadler of (where?) and Dorothy Bonner, the daughter of John Bonner of this parish(?) (?) Mason of (where?), 20th of August 1657.":

If anyone could help me with this I would be very grateful.

Thank you very much.  :) ;)

Hi,
I'm can't decipher all of it but I don't think the words you are missing are places. I think they relate to their trades.
Bartholomew Wyndover , of this parish(?) sadler of [horses] and Dorothy Bonner, the daughter of John Bonner of this parish(?) (?) Mason of [the th??], 20th of August 1657."
HTH a bit.

Thankyou.  :)
Yes, it would make sense that the words I can't see relate to their trades. I may have got my words mixed up a bit.

Cheers.  :) ;)

I am sure it’s a Parish name as if you look at the rest of the page it occurs in many entries. I wonder if they are living in one Parish but born in another and that’s what’s given.

I have been furiously googling maps of old Devon to find a possible place name.

Thank you.
If it is any help (which it might not be, but anyway), Bartholomew Wyndover/ Windover was baptised in 1633 in Sidbury.
This is a link to his baptism from the Bishops Transcripts:

As somebody else suggested, it could still be "party", though. :)

Yes I go with Bookbox now.

I had forgotten that party can refer to a person.

The one party and the other party meaning people. Never seen it used in a register in this way before.

A new learning experience. Thankyou.
