The marriage in England 1925 gives his father as William - do you know if that's correct for your Walter?

Witnesses were Albert Statham and Harriett Ethel Statham.

Death for Cissie Statham born 1903 in 1978?  Different one perhaps if your Walter married again before that.

You say no children but if you look on the Free BMD index and put in surnames Statham and Small there is a birth in 1929.  That person could still be alive so won't put the name.

On arrival into the US Walter Statham gives his father Walter back in Matlock as his next of kin - he had a friend, Mr Robert Main, in New York:

http://www.ctatatelibrarydata.org/marriage-records/
 - married Christine Davis in 1931

Christine Statham appears travelling into the US a couple times in the 1930s, minus Walter although she does list him as a contact.

Christine Davis or Statham naturalised in 1940:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QP76-SWY5 (says she is divorced)
(interestingly on the second page one of the witnesses is Robert Main...)

On Walter's side, it would appear that he was in Bexley, Kent for the 1939:

possibly living with Thomas P Kendall and Elizabeth H (nee Statham)
