John Cumming
« on: Wednesday 06 June 18 16:41 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,  I hope you can help me on this.  My grandfather was John Cumming and died on the 1/jan/1997 in Finzean.  He is buried with my Gran Isobel Petrie Cumming at Strachen Cemetery.  Strangely,  I have no idea of when he was born(26th of june rings a bell)  and where he was born.  He spent most of his life as a gamekeeper.

His parents were Donald and Jessie Cumming of Crathie.

Can anyone shed any light on this?  Many thanks for looking.

Cheers
Alan

Hi Alan,

Have you had a look at Scotlands People site for his death which records his age at death and what his mother's maiden name is? This could help to find his birth record.

Thank you

Hmmm. The source of all information about this is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

I had a look at the deaths index and there is no death of a John Cumming in Aberdeenshire in 1999. There is one in 1997, aged 87, mother's maiden surname Lamond, registered at Aboyne which would probably be the nearest registrar's office to Finzean.

There is a death of Isobel Clark Cumming, other surname Petrie, aged 79, mother's maiden surname Clark, registered in Aboyne in 2004.

John Cumming and Isabel Clark Petrie were married in Midmar in 1942. His parents were Donald Cumming, shepherd, and Jessie née Lamond. Hers were Alexander Frederick George Petrie and Bathia Anne née Clark.

You can view their marriage certificates, and John's birth certificate, and the corresponding certificates of the older generations, at modest cost on the Scotland's People web site. You won't be able to view Isabel's birth certificate, because she was born less than 100 years ago, or either John's or Isobel's death certificates because they died less than 50 years ago.

Happy hunting!

John Cumming is probably the birth registered at Crathie in 1909.

Isobel Clark Petrie's birth was registered in Glenmuick Crathie and Glengairn in 1924.
