Would anyone like to give my great grandfather some colour?

I would also be interested to know what the significance is of the 'chain' around his neck - masonic?

Keith

It does look like a Masonic Medal/Jewel Keith doesn't it, as I can see the set square but not a compass.

Hi Carol - I'm not 100% convinced myself as I thought the set square was usually 'V' shaped & as you say it's also missing the compass  :-\

I have searched for this medal, but can't see an exact likeness. However some Masonic medals do have a chevron similar to this, not all have the compass and set square.
I have no idea of the colour of the ribbon or chevron, but there does appear to be some white enamel. So here is my version.

He looks great in colour Pat - I wondered if it was a badge of office rather than masonic but whatever you have made him look very smart so thank you.
Much appreciated as always

Hi Keith, a bit of colour brightens him up doesn't it.
Where did he live?  I'm wondering if it could be a coat of arms of the city/town he lived in.
I can't find an image of a medal like this on a ribbon on any Masonic site. They all seem to be on the special  V shaped collar.

Hi Pat - he lived most of his life in Little Stonham, Suffolk & was by trade a maltster/brewer & then later in life a publican.
