C Castle - Lance Corp - 5th Lancers, Dublin
« on: Thursday 07 June 18 19:01 BST (UK) »
I know it is very little to go on but I was wondering if anyone could help me find more information on this person.  The only additional bit of information I have is that he may have been based in York around 1910.  The rank and regiment would certainly relate to that period.

A bit of a long shot I know but any help would be very much appreciated.

There is a Great War medal record for a SQMS Charles F Castle 5th Lancers.  Someone who was a corporal in 1910 could well have finished the war as a SQMS and this one.  His first number 5L/7369 indicates a regular soldier joining in about 1907. He has the Military Medal.  No service record though.

The regiment is reported in October 1910 as arriving in Dublin from York.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

MaxD,

Thank you so much for that - looks pretty promising particularly with the arrival date in Dublin from York.

Cathy,

I was just looking at 1901 census for Ramsgate, Charles F Castle age 15 - when you reply arrived!  Surely more than just a coincidence.

Thank you.

I think I have now found him in Royal Tank Corps Enlistment Records - original enlistment date 9 Apr 1906 previous regiment Lancers.

I am so grateful for what Rootschatters are able to do with so little information.
