Rebecca Maria Clarke b1871, Beragh Co Tyrone
« on: Thursday 07 June 18 22:05 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am searching for the parents and family of Rebecca Maria Clarke who was born in 1871 possibly in Beragh Co Tyrone, she may have been baptised in sixmilecross.
She married Robert Reid in 1901, but unfortunately died in childbirth in 1909.
I currently have William Clarke and Annabelle Ashfield as her parents, but so far have been unable to fully certify this, or get any further with my research, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure why this is posted in 'Other Countries', if a mistake, ask to have it moved to County Tyrone, where relevant folk will more likely see it and provide their expertise.

The marriage of Robert Reid and Rebecca Clarke was in 1902:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1902/10291/5745754.pdf

The details of Rebecca (and one of the witnesses) in the above marriage registration read across to this Aghnagar family in the 1901 census:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Beragh/Aghnagar/1748605/

The son and daughter shown in the above 1901 census return relate to these births at Aghnagar:
- William Thomas Clarke:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1867/03465/2272489.pdf
- Rebecca Marie Clarke:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1871/03274/2199897.pdf

William Clarke of Aghanagar, Clogherny, married Annabella Ashfield of Foremass, Errigal Keerogue,  on 30 May 1865 in Sixmilecross Presbyterian Church. Bachelor William was recorded as a farmer, the son of Thomas Clarke, a farmer.  Spinster Annabella was the daughter of Thomas Ashfield, a farmer.

Griffith's Valuation shows several Clarkes (including a Thomas) in Aghnagar, also a couple of Ashfields in Foremass Lower, the print date for both localities was 1860.
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=placeSearch

One of the Ashfields shown in Griffith's Valuation is a Martha Ashfield, PRONI has the following Will Calendars Index entry:
The Will of Martha Ashfield late of Foremass County Tyrone Widow who died 22 May 1891 at same place was proved at Armagh by George Smyth of Redargan in said County Farmer one of the Executors.

Martha Ashfield's will can be read online and mentions daughter Annabella Clarke:

Martha Ashfield's death registration:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1891/06070/4730799.pdf

There is also the following Will Calendars Index entry, again the will is available to read online:
The Will of Thomas Clarke late of Aughnagar County Tyrone Farmer deceased who died 2 April 1875 at same place was proved at Londonderry by the oath of James Agnew of Altimoskan (Drumigle Omagh) in said County Farmer the Executor.

The will mentions '... granddaughter Martha Jane Clarke, daughter to my son William ...' - William Clarke and Annabella Ashfield did indeed have a daughter Martha Jane in 1866:

In addition to the births for William Thomas Clarke, Rebecca Marie Clarke and Martha Jane Clarke already posted, William Clarke and Annabella Ashfield also had the following children at Aghnagar:

- Margaret Anne Clarke: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1869/03384/2240872.pdf
- John Clarke: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1874/03149/2155113.pdf

G'day,
I'm brand new to RootsChat. This is the first time I have opened and perused the site. From what I can see I'll be here more often than not.

OK you have asked about Rebecca Maria Clarke b: 14th Oct 1871. Without going through it all at this point I can let you know that she is my 1st cousin 2x removed. Her Mother is my great great aunt. Should you want further info and if you would see your way to tell me where you may fit in that would be great. By the way I'm in Australia (G'day) and was in co Tyrone last June July finding my roots as my family come from the cross.

Hope to hear from you.

Regards Steve
