This is fantastic, thank you so much!   :)
I am very ashamed of myself for not remembering that there are always two people in the same area with the same name!  The marriage of Maggie Hall to John Long is obviously wrong.
I am now wondering if the death which I was given for the mother Agnes is correct.  It seems very odd that she should travel out with Elsie and then return to England within the space of two years.  Can I be cheeky and ask if anyone can see her on a ship or otherwise dying in N.S.W?  (She was born Agnes Caroline Green in Walsall, Staffs., in 1857, daughter of Richard and Mary Ann.)
Thank you again
Bev

By the way there is another Agnes Caroline HALL in NSW in 1920's.   This one is presumably unmarried so not your lady.

A man called John Richard HALL dies in 1921 leaving a large estate and leaves a portion of it to his 2 sisters - Agnes Ada HALL and Agnes Caroline HALL (did he really have 2 sisters called Agnes?).
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article239741808  Obit for this man http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article15960163  (he was son of Richard HALL).

From NSW BDM death 1921
HALL John R, , father Richard, mother Ann, at Sydney

So this Agnes Caroline HALL, if  his sister, would have parents Richard and Ann.

Just adding this as it may fit into your family somewhere and helps us to exclude the death of this other Agnes Caroline HALL

Ros
(perhaps it should say sister-in-law Agnes Caroline HALL  ??? and perhaps this explains why they came to Sydney  ??? )
adding : No most unlikely as the husband of your Agnes was called John too and John Richard HALL's obit has him born in NSW.

Thank you, Ros.
I don't know much about John Hall because I am on the Green side;  my g-g-grandmother was Emily, Agnes Caroline's sister.  I only have him on one census in 1891, born in Yorkshire, living in Bradford, aged 25 and an engineer.  He moved down to Coventry some time just after the census and he died before 1901.
So there may be a connection and I certainly have some good leads to follow up.
Thank you to all who have taken the trouble to look up records.  I do know now that Elsie went to NSW with her Mum and at least four, and probably five of Agnes's daughters made their home there.
Best wishes
Bev
