Loughborough 1811 Census
« on: Friday 08 June 18 13:47 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am new to Rootschat so forgive me if this question has already been answered and I have been unable to find it...

Recently I heard that there is a surviving census of Loughborough which was taken in 1811 - is it possible to gain access to this and if so where/how?

Thanks
Andy

Greetings, and a warm welcome to Rootschat

http://www.1911census.org.uk/1811.htm suggests that there is local information surviving for households in Loughborough.  I think details would be minimal and would not give names - but I haven't seen them so I might be wrong.

Whatever records exist should be held by the Leicestershire Records Office.  There is an online catalogue which might help.

Thanks Philip, I'll see if I can find any further information in the Leicestershire Record Office online catalogue.  As you say the detail in any records who do exist may be minimal, but you never know!

Best wishes
Andy

I can check for you on Monday when in if you have specific name or address.

Many thanks for the information Diddy - it's very good news if the census is accessible at Loughborough Library as I don't live very far away myself.  I presume it is in the Local Studies section?

Your offer of a lookup is very kind but I have been meaning to visit Loughborough library for some time to see what local history resources they have, so I will now go there sooner rather than later!

Best wishes
Andy

Thats great Andy. Yes in local history section to back left as you go in. Census is in folder. 2 copies I
Think. One quite scruffy bit of paper! If FHS  people are there they are very helpful esp my friend Brian!
