William Mckay
« on: Friday 08 June 18 15:30 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for information, service record of William Mckay
I think he served in India 1890s and he may have served in Cork.
His wife's name was Catherine (Kate) Mckay.
He had a son Edmund Mckay born in India.
He had a daughter Elizabeth Mckay.
Any help on the above would be very much appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.
Frank

Both Edmund and Emily come up in the British Army overseas births with father in the 17th Lancers (Duke of Cambridge's Own).

The 1893 death could well be him.  There is a service record on FindMyPast for what is surely him - William McKay in the 17th Lancers later 5th Lancers joined 1867 pensioned 1891.  Married to Catherine Looney of Cork in Mhow India (where Edmund was born) 1872.  Four children, James (the informant on the death cert) born 1874 in Dundalk, William 1877 Leeds (no Elizabeth on the record).  The barracks reference in the death cert may mean he was working as a civilian with the army.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Elizabeth isn't on his service record or in the overseas births - can you find a birth for her?  He was discharged 1891 so perhaps she never made it to army records?  I note Lizzie is born India according to the 1901.

In 1911 she changed her mind and is now born in Cork.  Her birth registration in 1879:

Good spot!  He must have forgotten to tell the army although he was occupied at the time fighting in South Africa!!
