Donald McCASKILL (various spellings)  pensioner married Helen NOBLE in Inverness in 1822
He was a chelsea pensioner of the 3rd Foot Guards.  Discharged aged 40. "Spitting Blood"
they had 4 children he says 'pensioner' at all baptisms which are in Inverness

In 1841 he is  a pensioner age given as 65 with his wife Ann, (I believe Ann and Helen are either the same person, or sisters) and children which match the baptisms
Catherine, Ann, Jessie and Isabella

in 1851 wife Ann is a widow in Inverness.

I cannot see Donald's death anywhere between census night 1841 and 1851! Can anyone else?  I do not believe he was the Donald who emigrated to Nova Scotia with a wife Ann and children.

Where exactly in Inverness were they in 1841?

Scottish deaths for this era are rare i.e. you will be looking for MIs in the local cemetery to their last known abode presumably?

"What other info. do you have on the above?"

U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s on Ancestry
gives wife Ann, children Mary, Ann, Kenneth and Neil

"my children"   Catherine bapt 08 Mar 1823, Ann bapt 4 Mar 1824, Janet/Jessie bapt 16 Mar 1827,  and Isabella bapt 30 Mar 1829 all Inverness Church of Scotland. Donald = of Merkinch
I've got Catherine (she married someone HUTCHISON) in 1891 with her sister Ann (the ancestor)
I also have Ann 1841, 61, 71, 81, 91 and her death in 1898.  She had 2 children that I know of by different fathers to whom she was not married.
I have Jessie/Janet/Jane in 1841 and 1851 (she seems to have married John REEVES)
Isabella I only have in 1841.  maybe she died between the censuses too.

Anyway - none of this allows for them to have extra children nor to go to Nova Scotia in the 1840s from Harris.

1841 they are No 8 Kings Lane, Inverness
1851 his widow is at No 34 Upper Kessock Street  she died 10 Sept 1873 at 31 Grant Street

I am aware of the Moray Firth Local Heritages website, BUT.... It won't load consistently.

Hmm, you're right i.e. I don't understand why you ever included that scenario?

Re. death of Donald, have you tried findagrave.com

I included it because EVERY time I search for him, that family comes up top of the suggestions! so I wanted to pre-empt someone else telling me about them.

as far as I can see Scots graves don't feature on Findagrave.  Inverness isn't on there anyway.

Thanks for the explanation  ;)

I didn't have time to look at findagrave but would be surprised if none are listed for Inverness.

I note Donald isn't on here either;

He may not have a headstone which may be why he's not recorded?
