Yes, FreeBMD tells you the index details, and that her mother’s maiden name was Gibson, suggesting an illegitimate birth.

The index details can be used to order the certificate from the GRO Online in the usual way (mother’s maiden name not required).
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

When I look at Search the GRO Online Index and enter the details I have for a birth; the drop down menu only goes as far as 1917 ???

ADDED Looking at FreeBMD gives only the mother's surname of GIBSON ???

The GRO index is not up to date.  If you search on FreeBMD https://www.freebmd.org.uk/ you can get the details (year, qtr, district, vol, page) and use those details on the GRO "Order a certificate/PDF" page for certificates for events later than shown in the GRO index.

The mmn GIBSON on the FreeBMD index suggests one of two possibilities:
1) Joyce's mother was not married and no father is named.
2) Joyce GIBSON married Mr GIBSON.

Look for Place An Order to the right on GRO and you can send for the birth cert.. Have the year, registration quarter, and reference.

It's only the search area that is limited and buying from elsewhere is more expensive.
