NC information in England
« on: Sunday 10 June 18 08:23 BST (UK) »
Morning Everyone.

I bought a Phillimores Atlas awhile ago which was great, and really helped me locate some ancestors. But, for some branches of my tree, such as my maternal grandparents, I know for a fact they were staunch NC's!

What I'm hoping for, is something similar to the Phillimores Atlas but a NC version. I do realise that some areas and towns would have a very high number of chapels and meeting houses. But not all of these would have records and were just meeting houses.

If not, is there any way of compiling a full list of NC places for a town? I can then try to track each one down to see if they have any records which might be able to help in the relevant RO's.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.
David.

I usually use GenUKI for this purpose?

Within each county, go to Towns and Parishes; click on the relevant town.
Most counties pages include list of all churches.

Sometimes, there is a list on the County home page, though.
(GenUKI is an excellent resource, but lacks consistency)

Many thanks for your reply.

I hadn't really thought of that. It does sound like the best possible way to do it. Google Maps and GenUKI it is!

Can't believe I didn't think of it earlier!

Many thanks!!

Sorry I forgot to ask. How complete / accurate is GenUKI? Or should I just use its information as a guide?

Thank you.

Each county has a different person in charge, and the information varies.

I find it mostly very good, and accurate. Some info may be a little out of date, as everyone is a volunteer ;D

Take it as a guide, and try to verify through another source.

Another volunteer-organised source is Online Parish Clerks. Coverage varies according to county. See Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website for one of the best.
