Victorian uniform identification
« on: Sunday 10 June 18 13:02 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if anybody might have any ideas on what uniform this man is wearing. I know his surname is Beaumont, but frustratingly no first name or initial is provided. None of the Beautmont men of that era are on the census as being in the army.

The photographs were both taken at the "Institute of photography and repository of Art" by David Johnson of Corporation Street in Blackburn.

Many kind thanks for any help or ideas.

The photo is 1860's & the man may be Militia ie. part-timer. He's also an Officer.
This information wouldn't be included on a census return.
I don't know where your Beaumont's hail from but he would have been in a local Regt.

Per Blackburn newspaper reports there was a Lieutenant Beaumont in the 81st Lancashire Rifle Volunteer Corps in the mid-1860's.

There was a Walter Beaumont in the LRVC - a Lieutenant promoted to Captain in 33rd in 1862.

Many thanks for the information.

One possible candidate via online newspapers would be Ensign George Beaumont (1839-1882) of the 2nd Lancashire Rifle Volunteers. He appears in newspapers articles associated with the LRV between around 1865 and the early 1870s. His day job was an auctioneer and valuer in Blackburn.

I currently do not have a Walter Beaumont on the tree from that time frame.
