Cromarty, Scotland - Chisholms
« on: Monday 11 June 18 01:09 BST (UK) »
I am looking for more information on the Scottish side a William Chisholm who left Cromarty, Scotland on the Lady Gray in 1841 and sailed to Nova Scotia, Canada.  I would like to know his age and any brothers or sisters that may have went with, before or after him.   He  arrived in Pictou, NS Canada on the Brig Lady Gray in July of 1841.  He is record #1704 in the Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Volume 1. Author: Donald Whyte. The reason he is on this list is he signed a letter of concern of the conditions on board the ship.  Thank you.

You may be able to pinpoint the William Chisholm you're searching for if he was still in Scotland and thus recorded on the 6th June 1841 census.

Here's the url of the freecen website.  There's only one Chisholm in Cromarty but his name is Hugh, who may, or may not be related.  There are several listed with the full name that you're searching for and some are in the county of Ross & Cromarty

I think he may have just 'missed the boat' (no pun intended)  :D for the 1841 census?

I thought so too.  It's all very well saying a brig would take five weeks to arrive at its destination, but that's with a fair wind behind it.
